The City of Cape Town’s Transport Directorate is set to commence with the resurfacing of Main Road between Molteno Road and Wetton Road, as well as the resurfacing of Wetton Road between Main Road and Salisbury Road in Kenilworth. The work is scheduled to commence on Friday, 28 May 2021, and will be ongoing until mid-August 2021, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather. The bulk of the work will take place on Sundays between 08:00 and 17:00.
The works will also include the resurfacing of isolated sections of sidewalks and the relaying of isolated sections of channel. This will take place on weekdays between 09:00 and 16:00. This project is one of the many ongoing road maintenance projects across the city to prolong the longevity of the road network. Residents and road users will benefit from the work once completed in terms of improvements to the general road condition and safety.

Deviation of traffic
Residents and commuters who make use of this road on Sundays are advised that traffic moving from Wetton Road northbound towards Molteno Road will be temporarily deviated around Main Road between 08:00 and 17:00. The deviation will be in place while the road is being paved for approximately nine consecutive Sundays.
Also, there will be temporary road signage and flag personnel to regulate traffic flow by means of a temporary lane diversion or temporary lane closure between 09:00 and 16:00, while channel repairs and sidewalk resurfacing are being implemented. The work is planned to carry on for approximately 15 week days. Although traffic flow will be impeded, road users should be able to use the road. Appropriate signage will be in place and road users are requested to please adhere to the signage and flag personnel’s instructions.
