The City’s Water and Sanitation team has successfully connected the new 99 meter water pipeline relay to the existing pipeline in Lwandle. The bulk pipeline was reconstructed to enable an upgrade of stormwater drainage in the area. The three-day operation, which started on Monday, 7 June 2021, was completed as scheduled on Thursday, 10 June 2021.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste Alderman Xanthea Limberg thanked all involved for their efforts and understanding this week stating that their contributions had been very helpful.
“Thank you to our Helderberg residents for their patience while this work was carried out. The City regrets any inconvenience associated with the reduced water pressure and intermittent water supply, but it was important for the new pipeline to be connected to ensure sustained stability of the water supply, as well as to allow for an improved stormwater drainage system in Lwandle.” He said.

It was necessary for the City’s water pipeline to be shifted and a new section of pipeline to be connected so that the stormwater channels in the Lwandle area can be moved to offer improved drainage to manage recurring instances of stormwater run-off from ponding and flooding the area.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste also thanked the Water and Sanitation teams for working around the clock to successfully completing the work on site as scheduled and ensuring that the impact to the residents was minimised.
“This work demonstrates the City’s on-going commitment to ensuring a stable water supply to communities and improving their living conditions,” said Alderman Xanthea Limberg, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste.
