In continuous efforts to roll out bulk water projects in the Eastern Cape province, the Department of Water and Sanitation has allocated R10million through its Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant (RBIG) to address water challenges in Misgund, Langkloof.
The project which entails the construction of a new 400 kilo litre per day water treatment facility and an additional 300 kilo litre service reservoir will commence in August 2021 and is expected to be complete by January 2022.
“A total of 10 locals will be employed as laborers during the construction of the project to boost the local economy and as such, this will contribute to government’s commitment of the creation of employment opportunities,” said Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau.

Ratau added that the water treatment facility will supply water to communities in Misgund and surrounding areas. The project scope includes construction of the control building that will accommodate most of the mechanical and electrical equipment needed for the respective treatment processes.
“Some of the work to be done include the construction of a water pump station and a 300 kl capacity prefabricated steel reservoir,” Ratau said.
The Department has committed to ensure effective implementation of the project which will bring the much needed relief to affected communities in and around Misgund in the Langkloof.
