The City of Cape Town’s Roads Infrastructure Management Department is set to commence with roadworks on various roads in Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain. The work is scheduled to commence on 8 November 2021 pending unforeseen delays. Read more below:
- The works will be implemented along the following roads:
- Fukutha Road from Folokwe Street to Jeff Masemola Road in Khayelitsha
- Olifantshoek Road in Tafelsig
- Kilimanjaro Road in Mitchells Plain
- Nyanda Avenue from Hlophe Street to Malandahlala Street
The works entail the resurfacing of Fukutha Road from Folokwe Street to Jeff Masemola Road which includes selective Bitumen Treated Base patches and replacing of existing asphalt layer, as well as road and the marking of roads in various suburbs in District 7, including repairs to the pavements.

The roadmarking of local roads will be implemented in the following suburbs:
- Eyethu
- Khaya
- Nongqubela
- Victoria Mxenge
- Mxolisi Phethani
- Thembokwezi
- Woodlands
- Waltevreden valley
- Mandalay
- Samora Marchel
- Kosovo
- The Leagues
- Heinz Park
- Acacia Park
- Island and Vietnam
This work is scheduled to be completed by 10 December 2021, pending unforeseen delays.
Further work entails the rehabilitation of a section of Nyanda Avenue from Hlophe Street to Malandahlala Crescent Road, sidewalk repairs in selected areas.
The works in this area is scheduled to be completed by 30 November 2021, pending unforeseen delays.
The work in Mitchells Plain entails the resurfacing Olifantshoek Road between Bokkeveld and Langeberg Roads in Tafelsig and the lowering of kerbs in Kilimanjaro Road.
This works are scheduled to be completed by 27 November 2021.
These roadworks are part of routine maintenance of city roads to ensure that they are durable and safe for all road users. We appeal to residents to please work with us and where possible consider using alternative routes during the construction period.
