“I am glad to see that the refurbishment of Voortrekker Road is continuing as planned. I want to thank the residents for their patience and cooperation while our teams carry out these works. I know these roadworks cause some traffic delays along this busy main road, but it is one of our main commercial corridors in Cape Town, and therefore the maintenance of the road is very important to ensure people and goods can move as needed,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The work will take place throughout the week from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:30.
The specific section includes the following area:
Eastbound from West Street to Railway Bridge before Mike Pienaar Boulevard
Eastbound and Westbound from Duminy Street to Boston Street
Eastbound and Westbound from Boston Street to Durban Road

Road users and informal street vendors are advised that if vehicles are parked or trading bays are erected in the road and obstruct the work, they will be asked to move. It is in the interest of all road users to comply with the traffic arrangements of the appointed contractor.
Due to the expected congestion in this area, the City recommends that road users consider alternative routes where possible. We thank you for your cooperation and patience while we get this important work done as soon as possible for the benefit of all road users.
Traffic moving in both directions will be affected, however, flag personnel will direct traffic by means of temporary detours around the work area, which will be demarcated.
The roadworks will entail the removing of the top asphalt layer and replacing it with a brand new asphalt surface for a 2km long section of Voortrekker Road.
Roads are identified and prioritised for resurfacing by the Roads Infrastructure Management team in the district during site visits and according to the relevant district office’s planned schedule. This schedule addresses each area within the district to ensure that the allocated operational budget is allocated equitably among all wards and suburbs.
