In a bid to raise awareness on the significance of efficient water use, the Department of Water and Sanitation in partnership with Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality and Sedibeng Water will host several workshops in Borakalalo and Makgobistad this week.
The workshops will take place this coming Thursday, 5th August 2021 and Friday, 6th August 2021 in Borakalalo and Makgobistad, respectively.
The workshops will serve as a platform to empower the water and sanitation forum members to actively participate in the water and sanitation business processes so as to be able to make informed decisions affecting water and sanitation services within the Ramotshere and Ratlou Local Municipalities.
The forums were established to ensure public participation in water management and sanitation provision, as well as to enhance awareness on the work of the Department to the public. The forum members are mainly tasked to disseminate information to communities regarding progress, challenges and envisaged developments in the water and sanitation business through information sessions.

According to Mr Peter Mogosetso from the Department, the workshops will raise awareness on the importance of a behavioural change needed to effectively manage water resources in the province, especially in areas with inconsistent water supply.
“Through these workshops, we aim to enhance the understanding and promotion of informed decision-making related to water services and water resource management. We will also revive the Water and Sanitation forum in Borakalalo which has been inactive for some time”, said Mogosetso.
Mogosetso added that during the workshops, there will be presentations by experts in the water and sanitation fields, focusing on topical issues like infrastructure asset management, water treatment value chain, water and sanitation business, as well as water conservation and demand management.
Mogosetso also highlighted that that the workshops would provide the forum members with knowledge and understanding of different water sector issues.
“We aim to empower the forum members to disseminate appropriate information to communities and participate in the water business effectively,” said Mogosetso.
The workshops come amid the ongoing implementation of several bulk water projects in the province which are aimed at alleviating water supply challenges.
