The Landfill and Waste Treatment 2021 virtual seminar and exhibition that is scheduled to take place on 3-5 November, will explore where the waste industry in South Africa should be going if it wants to reach a destination of “integrated waste management facilities”.
Hosted by the Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa (IWMSA) KZN Landfill and Waste Treatment Interest Group, the seminar programme will include a variety of topics – from the traditional waste disposal operations to the future of landfill and waste treatment within the circular economy.
“The traditional focus on landfill – whilst essential – must be complemented with alternative waste management solutions to form what is called an integrated waste management facility,” explains Brendon Jewaskiewitz, IWMSA President. “An effective integrated waste management system would provide for opportunities to prevent waste generation; to recycle, reuse or recover waste; and for the residual waste to be treated and/or disposed in a manner which protects human health and the environment.”
