The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS)’s weekly status of reservoirs indicates that Northern Cape dam levels have once again recorded an increase moving from 99.2% last week to 99.8% this week. The latest figures are an improvement compared to same period last year when they were sitting at 94.4%.
The main Water Supply System in the Province; Orange River Water Supply System has decreased from 91.1% last week to 90.6% this week.
Karee Dam which serves Calvinia has further lessened from 22.7% last week to 21.8% this week. This is a significantly huge decrease from the 71.2% witnessed at the same period last year. Vanderkloof Dam in the Orange River Water Supply System situated at the border of Free State and Northern Cape is steady and unchanged at 98.5%.

The following are the provincial storage weirs; Douglas Storage Weirs recorded a downward movement from 109.8% last week to 109.3% this week, Vaalharts expanded from 93.0% to 93.8% week on week, Boegoeberg is unmoved at 105.5%, and Spitskop also moved up from 100.9% last week to 101.8% this week.
The fact that this is an upward movement in provincial water levels for the third week consecutively is welcome news, however the Department of Water and Sanitation continues to urge residents to use the available water sparingly.
